Who is East Coaster Studios?

East Coaster Studios is the brand under which Jamie Carruthers pursues his art and music endeavours. Jamie is a science and biology teacher who is originally from Nova Scotia. He moved to North Bay in 2000 and is a lifelong supporter of the arts and music. However, it is only recently that he has started painting, making pottery creations and promoting music. What started as a way to support East Coast musicians and artists has quickly grown into a concert series with shows in Nova Scotia and North Bay. His first show was in Nova Scotia and featured Terra Spencer and Jud Gunning. With encouragement from Terra and Dave Gunning Jamie has leapt head first into the world of concert promotion.

Jamie has run music, art and concert events in support of many initiatives including Kids Help Phone, The Canadian Association for Suicide prevention, One Kids Place Children’s Treatment centre, Chippewa Secondary School’s music program, Songwriters From Here and Away and OutLOUD. In a little more than a year over $27,000 has been raised for a variety of causes.

His art and pottery can be found in homes from Vancouver to Newfoundland (although you might have to look hard as they may be stored in a dark closet). His work often features images and animals from his home province of Nova Scotia. His ‘Take a Hike’ series of pottery mugs and bowls have been popular but his most well known pottery creation is the ‘Sharkuterie’ board.
